The State Data Centre in Kragujevac, construction of which was entrusted to our company, Millennium team, was ceremoniously opened in just under a year and a half since the moment its foundation stone was laid on July 3, 2019.
The State Data Centre will host the first state-owned AI platform, which will be at the disposal of the state, local self-government, as well as universities, science-technology parks and start-ups.
Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Serbia, ceremoniously opened the State Data Centre in Kragujevac on December 18, 2020, by laying down on a pedestal the capsule containing messages written by children from Kragujevac when the foundation stone was laid.
- By opening the State Data Centre, we became a country with the most modern database, which will store data belonging to citizens, and local and major international companies. This day represents a turning point in the future development of Kragujevac and Serbia, and shows that we are finally becoming a serious country with serious institutions, which protects citizens and their data. Also, we are showing other countries that we can protect their data as well, the Prime Minister said, recalling that Switzerland is known by its banking system, and that it became wealthy by always guaranteeing the safekeeping of money belonging to individuals and companies.
Head of the Office for IT and e-Government Mihajlo Jovanović, spoke about all the challenges that contractors faced during the construction of the State Data Centre, which was successfully completed ahead of time, even in spite of the unprecedented situation we are currently in, the coronavirus pandemic.
- Our contractors were given a unique opportunity, and as of today they have a reference for building IT facilities such as this. We thank the designer Mašinoprojekt, contractor Millennium Team and supervisor Beo potez for the job professionally done and infinite patience when listening to requests of investors, and dedication to completing the project within the deadline. Construction of facilities such as this takes about three years elsewhere in the world. We are putting ours into operation one year and five months after laying the foundation stone, without entering into a single annex with the contractor. We also dealt with the disposal of unexploded ordinance, bombs from WW2, which we found here, and the coronavirus that did not spare our construction site. Many local companies helped with the construction, and I congratulate them on this success, Mihajlo Jovanović said.
Agreements for commercial use of the Data Centre were signed with a number of local and foreign companies, including Huawei and IBM.
The opening of the Data Centre was attended by the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Marija Obradović, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunication Tatjana Matić, Minister without portfolio Nenad Popović, Head of the Office for IT and e-Government Mihailo Jovanović and the Mayor of Kragujevac Nikola Dašić.
