At the Home of the Guard in Topčider, military awards and letters of thanks were given to companies, individuals and media that donated funds and provided support to the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia during the fight to combat the COVID-19 disease.
The privilege and the honour of becoming one of the laureates was granted to our company, Millennium Team, which donated a new building for accommodating migrants at the Reception Centre in Obrenovac
Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin thanked everyone who donated funds to prevent the spread and combat COVID-19 on behalf of Serbia, on behalf of the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, on behalf of every soldier and patient, stating that, thanks to them, Serbia had shown its best side when it was the most difficult.
- You were there and you are still here. That is why I am thankful on behalf of Serbia and on behalf of Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, on behalf of the citizens of Serbia, on behalf of every soldier and patient. I am grateful that we can stand in front of foreign people so proudly, to show them what we are capable of doing and what kind of hospitality we offer. Thank them because none of our soldiers, none of our healthcare workers were without care or without something warm to drink, because none were without protective equipment and disinfection products, no one was without bread or newspaper. Thank you for caring for them like they were yours, and actually, they are yours. Thank you very much on behalf of Serbia which showed its best side, with us in it - said Minister Vulin.
The Minister of Defence said that a country like Serbia could not be measured by the number of its citizens and square kilometres, GDP or wealth, but only by the value and virtue of its people.
- We have shown that we are better, we have shown that we are more organized, richer, with more solidarity and more reliable than many big and powerful countries. Greatness and power are not in bank accounts, in Swiss treasures. Greatness and power are in the strength and hard work of those ready to give a piece of their bread so someone else is not left without it. In the times of “holy selfishness”, you are above that principle which rules this world, and there is an even greater, older and more important principle - “holy love” for people you live with and the country you live in - said Minister Vulin.
During the time of the fight against the coronavirus, we could see many big and powerful countries, rich nations taking aid, ventilators, medicine from each other, as well as that many rich and powerful cities had no organization of government or people, Minister Vulin underscored, adding that in Serbia, thanks to its people, something like that had not happened.
In this country, no one was left alone, without medicines, without hope, and there was no one who can say the state pushed them aside, forgotten them, abandoned them, asked them whether they had health insurance or not, how rich or poor they are. In this country, everyone had a right to life and no one’s father or mother was taken off a ventilator because they were too old. For us, there is no such thing as too old, as well as there is no such thing as too young. For us, there is no life not worth fighting for. Thank you for being here in these difficult moments - underscored Minister Vulin.
Not all who helped in the fight against the coronavirus nor was that expected, said the Minister of Defence, and added that the good will shown by everyone is that much more valuable. He told the people attendees that it all made them special, because they had shown that there were so many people ready to be with all of us, and to help us more than they can.
- Thank you for showing us your best side at this difficult moment, for showing that in this country, no one is, will not and must not be alone, for showing that you are there even when focus is lost, lights are out, cameras turn their lenses – said Minister Vulin.
