The feast of hockey in Belgrade. “The whole event was organized at the initiative of our guests, which is a special honour because this team never travels beyond the borders of the former USSR. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of winning the gold medal in Sarajevo in 1984 we hosted the legends of the sport, some of which are even double Olympic champions. Those masters of hockey are now mostly celebrities or successful business people and politicians. This is a great opportunity and a real incentive for hockey in Serbia. I would like to point out that the whole event was organized under the auspices of the City of Belgrade,” said Stojan Vujko, Managing Director of Millennium team and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Legends of Hockey vs. Veterans of Serbia exhibition match.
Among the high officials who attended the Legends of Hockey vs. Veterans of Serbia match were Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandar Chepurin, Mayor of Belgrade Siniša Mali, Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Antić, Managing Director of Srbijagas Dušan Bajatović, as well as representatives of Gazprom.

The best Russian hockey veterans, the legends of the fastest collective sport in the world and winners of numerous Olympic and world medals, demonstrated to the citizens of Belgrade all the qualities that adorned them for years while they skated and defended the colours of Zbornaya in top world competitions. More than 1000 hockey fans had the honour to see them at work in Pionir ice arena, which showed that this sport can jump back at least near the center of interest of Serbian sport public.
Fans of domestic hockey had the opportunity to see at work some of the most famous names who had for years been writing vibrant pages of history of the sport. The team which, among others, consisted of such hockey masters as Vyacheslav Fetisov, Alexei Kasatonov, Sergei Babin and the famous goalie Vladimir Myshkin, was managed by another living legend, Sergei Makarov. They presented the audience with great hockey, scored eight goals against the Serbian Veterans and showed excellent form in which this team is despite the fact that they played with almost three times smaller rooster of players. Guests won by 8-3, although the result of this match was of secondary importance.
Belgrade audience showed their appreciation for the successes of the hockey players who came to our capital city to celebrate the 30th anniversary of winning the gold medal for the Soviet Union at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984, and they cheered after every good move and goal.
