Belgrade City Manager Goran Vesić attended the opening of the construction works on secondary sewage network in the old centre of Surčin Municipality, conducted by Serbian company, Millennium Team. Mayor of Surčin Stevan Šuša, Head of the Directorate for construction land and construction of Belgrade Branislav Popović, director of Belgrade Water and Sewage public utility company Svetozar Veselinović and Stojan Vujko, General Manager of Millennium Team  also toured the construction site.

Vesić pointed to the importance for the Municipality of Surčin of the start of construction of the sewage network worth RSD 131 million.

– 45 km of sewage network will be built, creating the conditions for connecting 4,400 households to this system. There are around 12,000 people living in the very central area of Surčin and everybody understands how important it is for the municipality. The construction period is 240 days, until December 20. Surčin has been waiting a long time for this and the City of Belgrade made a promise to have it done.  This also corrects, to put it mildly, the failure, that is the embezzlement which took place in Surčin a few years ago, when the former local authorities misused €1 million loan without building the sewage. If there was sewage, we wouldn’t have to build it today. We will observe the contracts that the citizens have signed with the municipality and they will get what they paid for – the City Manager stated.

He reminded that the City of Belgrade, allocated RSD 170 million for the Municipality of Surčin this year through the Directorate for construction land and construction of Belgrade.

– Expected to take the place in the second half of the year is the building of the sewage pumping station in Dobanovci, worth RSD 250 million, so that the residents of this municipality can be sure that, within the town plan, there will not be a single house left without connection to the sewage system and they will have this goal achieved even sooner. Our policy envisages that all citizens of Belgrade, regardless of the place of residence, must have connection to the sewage system, water supply, road connection and public transportation, which is why we are making investments in suburban settlements in order to provide the missing infrastructure, which has not been built so far –Goran Vesić said.

Stojan Vujko, General Manager of Millennium Team stated that the project will be completed on time with the workers making efforts not to disturb the lives of the residents of the municipality.

-All works will be completed on time. It is very important for the residents of Surčin municipality that the workers will make a maximum effort not to disturb the regular activities and living in the municipality in the coming months, Stojan Vujko, General Manager of Millennium Team pointed out.

Mayor of Surčin Stevan Šuša reminded that, besides the works on the sewage system, bypass road and the Surčin loop also opened today, largely improving  the living conditions of all residents of the municipality.

– The sewage project includes work in 17 segments that, though separate, will be integrated into a functional entirety. As one segment is finished, households will be connected to the network, as stipulated in the contract, after which we will keep working on the sewage system in Dobanovci and continue creating conditions for the continuation of the construction of sewage system toward Jakovo and other villages on the territory of the municipality –Šuša stated.
